Gustav…

just wanted to let everyone know that we’ll most likely be going out of town for the hurricane.  not necessarily to avoid it, but to be a little more comfortable!  my parents have a generater, and plenty of gas and food, lol.  as always, if you need to reach me just call my cell (225-933-8770) or you can always email.

for everyone in the affected areas, be safe!

sneak peek: the definition of cute…

straight from Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary -  attractive or pretty especially in a childish, youthful, or delicate way.  um, okay if this little guy is not that exact definition i don’t know what is!  this little cutie came in this morning for his 1st birthday session, and even though he hadn’t been feeling well he was still oh so cute!  this first image was the very first one to pop onto my screen when i pulled them into photoshop and i LOVE it!  one more thing before i go… that last image of him and his cake.. that was almost the last one i took… he was a very neat little thing, lol!

Dangerously cute!

Well, as I posted previously, I had surgery last week.. and not knowing exactly when I was having surgery I had pretty much scheduled the whole month of August off.. with 1 or 2 exceptions.  By yesterday I was having withdrawls!  My camera had dust on it… seriously… poor little thing’s just been sitting there all pitiful like, lol.  As luck would have it, my oldest daughter had a friend over yesterday and in exchange for ice cream they agreed to come play model for a little while.

The first photo is my daughter doing what appears to be a “happy crazy lady” face, and then next is one of her BFF’s, who’s a beautiful girl and oh so photogenic.  She does the best serious faces.. just look.  I’m suddenly having a vision of the future.. and all I can say is we’d better get our shotguns ready, LOL.

Taking care of business…

Hi there!

I realized something this past week while i was recovering from my surgery.. September 1st will be one year that Hope Brown Photography has been in business!!  Very exciting for me.. and of course,  I get asked all the time how long I’ve been a photographer.  Even though I’ve only been in business for a year, I’ve been “into” photography for many years and have been doing this “on the side” since 2004.  And let me tell you, I love.. LOVE my job!  I wish that I could just take pictures all day, every day and strictly deal with the creative side of the business.. and not, well, the business side!  But I don’t think I’d be able to stay in business if that were the case.  So with the 1 year anniversary coming soon, I’ve come up with some new (some not so new) business policies that I feel will help me run things more effeciently and spend less time on the business side of things and more time doing what I love!

So, I’m going to include a link to the new business policies.. but here’s the most important things you need to know:

  1.  Session Retainer fees will now need to be paid over the phone with a credit or debit card.
  2. Online galleries will expire 10 business days from the time it’s published.
  3. There will be a minimum print committment of $100.
  4. If you are more than 10 minutes late for you session without notification to Hope, session will be canceled.
  5. All ordered images will be kept on file for a minimum of 1 year, unordered images will be discarded after 30 days.
  6. No other cameras or recording devices are allowed at your portrait session.

So as you can see, it’s all pretty much what I’ve been doing all along.  I just wanted to make them public (you will receive them from now on with your sessions) before there was a problem.  All past sessions that were completed, meaning that the session took place, an order was placed and delivered are exempt from these.  If you’ve had a session in the past 2 weeks, you were given a copy of these as well.  Any outstanding orders (sessions that have taken place, but no order has been placed) will be subject to these policies as well.

So here’s the link:http://hopebrown.com/bizpolicies.pdf and you can also view them by clicking the “Links” at the top of the page, and then clicking “policies”!

Thanks so much, and thanks to everyone who helped make my first year in business a great one!!
